Stages of Fibromyalgia
Here are the 6 different stages of fibromyalgia.
Not Sure What is Going On
You started facing pain and fibromyalgia fatigue more than before. You’re not sure what is going on and you are tired. You can hold a job, you can make it through your day but you know something isn’t right. So it’s something you’re going to start researching.
Exhausted Almost Every day
You are in pain a lot. Sometimes taking an anti-inflammatory drug or you do not get more relief. You have accepted the fact that this is something you are going to have for a while. You feel a lot of pain and you are exhausted almost every day. But for the most part, you keep going and hold down. You can still go to events, spend time with your friends, and loved ones. Stages of fibromyalgia start affecting you.
No longer have the Energy
You are in constant pain and constantly tired. The person starts wondering whether you will be ever able to function normally again. You are considering not working because you no longer have the energy you once had. You come home from work and all you can do is rest.
The best you feel is to turn down invitations. You have no energy left and you have to rest up just to go back tomorrow. In this stage, you start to feel more alone and more and more people are beginning to think you whine too much. These stages of fibromyalgia can last a long time, perhaps years.
Calling in Sick
You are an unrelenting pain all the time. Good days are few and far between. You are calling in sick to work more than you even make it in. You are in bed a good portion of your day. When you do have a good day, you take advantage of it and do as much as you can. Your flare last for days. By this time, your friends make plans without you. They already know your excuses and are nearly certain you will not be able to join in.
Your family begins to think you are using fibromyalgia as an excuse to not do things because 1, 2, and 3 stages of fibromyalgia you were able to do much of what you just can’t do now. Now they think you are using your illness as an excuse. You feel alone, isolated, worried, emotional, and sad. This stage can last years.
The Struggle to Make Ends Meet
You have already been let go or have quit your job. You are asking questions about fibromyalgia disability and how long it takes to get it. Start hearing horror stories about people being denied in the process taking years. You are struggling to make ends meet. Maybe have a person who takes care of you. You spend a lot of your day in bed although you still take advantage of that one good day once in a while. You are sore.
It feels like you cry a lot you feel like a prisoner in your own body. By these stages of fibromyalgia, you have already explained to your friends that it still feels good to be invited even if you don’t go. You have found that the only people that can relate to you are in a similar predicament. You wish your friends and family could understand.
Fibromyalgia is Your Lifestyle
The final stage. You may or may not still be waiting for a disability pension. You cannot hold down a job. Fibromyalgia is now your lifestyle. Most of your friends are living with fibromyalgia themselves. Everything you do takes all your precious energy. Simple daily tasks you took for granted in earlier stages, going to the bathroom, washing your hair, taking a shower, getting dressed, tying your shoes, take all you can give.
You get irritated by your hair our clothes touching your skin. You have no energy or desire to put on your face before going out, no energy to keep a neat home. With all the medication you are on now or have tried, you are dealing with side effects and constant pain.

I was in my early 30’s when I started feeling like I had the flu. It would come & go. The Dr’s put me on depression meds because I was going through a divorce & had 3 children. That didn’t help the pain. I am now 65 yrs old & understand my condition much more because doctors are learning more about it but no closer to treatment for it. Your page has a lot of good information especially for someone that has just discovered what is going on with their body.
I realize this comment is older, but, I want to tell you that I too have been dealing with fibro since I was 31, I’m 68 now. Misdiagnosed for years, I was told I needed a job, I had just given birth and had 4 other kids and a husband to care for. I worked for years, raised my family and was in constant pain all the while. Finally, my body gave out and I’m basically a medical mess, can’t take meds, I get trigger point shots and use medical cannabis, not ideal, far from pain free, but, at least I’m not taking
L—-ca, that stuff is poison. It is my experience that this condition worsens with time.
How do I start it’s four o’clock in the morning crept out of bed so I don’t wake my partner in so much pain I was diagnosis two years ago always in pain it always follow me find it hard to make beds I used to have the cleanest house I couldn’t open the glad bags I started crying I’m so tired all the time meds don’t last the month can’t go before because doctor’s can’t they All are being watch how much meds they can give you because some people have abused it I’m like a squirrel but sometimes I have to have more so the last week sooooooo bad no one understands.

I would say the very last. Time goes by, and I’m barely doing anything. Something always hurts, and I could sleep forever, and yes I do mean forever. Everything is wrong, and I don’t seem to be able to even force myself to do things anymore. I’d say I’m definitely at the last stage. It seemed to pop up after I was diagnosed with breast Cancer. I had radiation, and I have never been right since. I think I may have always had it, however it showed up as different ailments. So now I wonder if it was always Fibro, it’s just no one even mentioned it until after the Cancer diagnosis.
I’m almost at the last stage. I have a job but it’s not demanding like my previous job. I wonder how much longer I can hang in there.
I have been unable to work for 8 years, but turned down by the disability judge adter two appeals (apparently i am still physically capable of being a left-handed table-wiper, therefore can not collect on all the money i paid in to when i was working two jobs at a time for decades… ??). I was a phlebotomist for nearly seven years. It counts for nothing. I have cut out all gluten 11 years ago, added high dose vit d3 (per dr order. My levels were at 17! Supposed to be between 80-120! Adding the D helped my depression immensely, and been vegetarian for five years. I smoke cannabis to help my pain level be managed. It helps me sleep as well. Epsom salt baths 3x a week and no more full-body RLS. Removing gluten helped 80% of my pain as well. Still can’t hold a job, wake ip in pain daily and need to “be careful not to spend too many spoons” on any certain task.
