Have you heard about rheumatoid arthritis physical therapy with paraffin wax bath treatment? Hi, my name is Tricia Trinque and I’m a physical therapist at Seabreeze Physical Therapy. Today we’re going to be talking about how to treat rheumatoid arthritis pain. Materials that we’ll be using today, include a paraffin bath, that can be purchased online as well as we’re going to be using some saran wrap.
Rheumatoid Arthritis Physical Therapy
Rheumatoid arthritis can be a debilitating arthritic disease that can cause pain and discomfort in the hand. Preventing us from utilizing our hand as effectively as we would like. In order to help relieve some of that pain, we can utilize paraffin wax bath treatment.
Use Paraffin Bath for Hands
It helps us to provide heat to the joints that are difficult to get to with a regular heating pad. We’re going to have a patient of rheumatoid arthritis physical therapy do is to hold her fingers out nice and straight.
Hold Hand Straight and Dip Hand
She’s going to dip her hand into the paraffin wax bath. Now she’s gently going to dip her hand into the paraffin bath, keeping her hand nice and relaxed.
Go all the way in, up until to cover the wrist, come down it should it’s a little hot but it won’t burn. Don’t touch the bottom or the sides. Now bring it out. Allow the drippings of the wax to drip off and hold.
Dunk Hand 4-5 Times
We’re going to dunk that four more times and then on this last dip, I’m going to let the drippings drop and hold that’s it.
Wrap Hand with Saran Wrap
At this point, once the drippings have stopped, then we’re going to take our saran wrap and we’re going to hold the heat in by wrapping the saran wrap around the hand. Holding that nice heat in and then taking a towel. Your rheumatoid arthritis physical therapy is half done.
Cover with a Towel
Wrapping the towel around the hand to hold the heat in.
Wait for 20 Minutes
She’ll have a seat for 20 minutes, to allow the heat to penetrate into the joints. This is done just to decrease some of the pain and inflammation and improve her mobility. That is how you do rheumatoid arthritis physical therapy for a paraffin bath to relieve rheumatoid arthritis pain.
